Social Events
In In addition to the scientific program of InSAM’3, the
attendees will have a chance to discover the beauty of
Ouarzazzate city and its region diversity. They will have the
opportunity of seeing several tourist sites such as the historic
site of the Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou, that of the Kasbah of
Taourirt, the Solar Complex Noor Ouarzazate and the Atlas Film
Studio. By reflecting the Moroccan sense of hospitality and
generosity combined with fun, the social program will be
extraordinary for the participants and their companions. After
the courses, different options for trip and social program will
be offered for participants.
Important Tourist Sites
Ouarzazate City
This city is at an elevation of 1,160 meters in the
middle of a bare plateau south of the High Atlas
Mountains. To the south of the town is the desert. The
town is chiefly inhabited by Berber-speakers, who
constructed many of the prominent kasbahs and
buildings for which the area is known. Ouarzazate is an
important holiday destination in Morocco, as a base for
excursions across the Draa Valley and into the
desert. The fortified village (Ksar) of Aït
Benhaddou west of the city is
a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Ait Benhaddou Kasbah
This is a traditional Mud Brick city on the edge of the
High Atlas Mountains. It is on the UNESCO World
Heritage List and has featured in many films,
mostly as a replacement for Jerusalem. It has appeared
in more than 10 movies, including Lawrence of
Arabia, Gladiator, etc.

Atlas Film Studio
The Ouarzazate area is a noted film-making location,
with Morocco's biggest studios inviting many
international companies to work here. Films such
as Lawrence of Arabia (1962), The Man Who
Would Be King (1975), The Living
Daylights (1987), The Last Temptation of
Christ (1988), The Mummy (1999),
Gladiator (2000), Kingdom of
Heaven (2005), Kundun (1997),
Legionnaire (1998), Hanna (2011),The
Hills Have Eyes (2006), Salmon Fishing in the
Yemen (2011), etc. were shot here, as was part of
the TV series Game of Thrones.

Solar Complex Noor

Taourirt Kasbah
Taourirt Kasbah is built in the 17th century by the
tribe Glaouas. It has long been the residence of the
Pasha Glaoui. It has a Berber architecture with airs of
sandcastles: red walls of bronze rising skyward,
embattled towers of its different parts. The interior of
this building, is richly decorated dining room, living
spaces, rooms etc. A special light will charm you. The
Kasbah is a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
